Common Questions About Our Services

Find answers to frequently asked questions about our welding, fabrication, and custom metal services.

General Services

We provide a comprehensive range of welding services including MIG (Gas Metal Arc Welding), TIG (Gas Tungsten Arc Welding), and Stick (Shielded Metal Arc Welding) processes. This allows us to work with carbon steel, stainless steel, aluminum, cast iron, and various alloys. We handle everything from precision thin-gauge work to heavy structural fabrication. Our certified welders can accommodate both shop-based projects and on-site mobile welding needs.

Absolutely. Custom fabrication is a significant part of what we do. We create one-of-a-kind metal pieces including ornamental gates, decorative railings, custom furniture, equipment mounts, architectural details, and specialty fixtures. From initial concept discussion through final installation, our team works closely with you to bring your vision to life. We can work from your sketches, photos, or detailed drawings — or help you develop a design from scratch.

Turnaround times vary based on project scope, complexity, and our current workload. Small repairs and simple fabrication jobs are typically completed within 3-5 business days. Larger custom projects may take 2-4 weeks. When we provide a quote, we include a realistic completion timeline. We respect deadlines and communicate proactively if any adjustments become necessary during the project.

Yes, we regularly work with engineer-stamped blueprints, architect drawings, and detailed specifications. For structural steel work, we review drawings for compliance with applicable codes and raise any concerns before fabrication begins. If you don't have formal drawings, we can create detailed shop drawings for your approval before production begins on custom projects.

Pricing & Estimates

Our hourly rates range from $75-$125 depending on the welding process and material type. Structural steel fabrication is typically quoted as a custom project based on material costs and labor. Custom fabrication projects receive detailed itemized quotes. We provide free estimates for most projects under $5,000. For larger projects, we may require a small engineering deposit which is credited to your final invoice.

Yes, we provide free estimates for most standard welding and fabrication projects. Custom or complex projects may require a nominal fee for detailed engineering and planning, which is credited back to your final invoice if you proceed with the work. We believe in transparent pricing — the quote you receive is the price you'll pay, barring any changes you request during the project.

We accept cash, checks, and all major credit cards. For larger projects, we typically require a 50% deposit before work begins, with the balance due upon completion. We can discuss payment terms during the estimate process to ensure they work for your budget and timeline.

Certifications & Quality

Yes, our welders hold American Welding Society (AWS) certifications across multiple processes and material combinations. We maintain certifications and stay current with evolving codes and industry standards. For projects requiring documented procedures and welder qualifications, we can provide the necessary paperwork as part of our quality assurance documentation.

We can provide weld procedure specifications (WPS) and welder performance qualification records (WPQR) for projects requiring code compliance or documentation. This is common for structural steel work, pressure piping, and certain industrial applications. Let us know during the estimate stage if your project requires certified welding documentation.

Every weld undergoes visual inspection by our fabricators before being deemed complete. For critical applications, we offer non-destructive testing services including dye penetrant inspection. Our shop maintains quality control logs for each project, ensuring traceability and accountability throughout the fabrication process.

Mobile Welding & Service Area

Yes, we operate fully-equipped service vehicles that bring welding capabilities directly to your job site. Mobile welding is ideal for oversized equipment that can't be transported, emergency repairs, on-site installations, and situations where bringing items to our shop isn't practical. A trip fee applies in addition to hourly rates, which varies based on distance from our Highgate location.

Our primary service area includes Vermont (Franklin, Grand Isle, Chittenden, and surrounding counties) and northern New York. We regularly serve clients throughout Vermont including Burlington, St. Albans, Swanton, and surrounding communities. For larger projects or ongoing relationships, we're willing to travel further — contact us to discuss your specific location and project requirements.

Yes, we have flatbed and trailer equipment for transporting large fabricated items. Delivery fees are calculated based on distance and size of the project. For local deliveries within our primary service area, we often include standard delivery at no additional charge for projects over a certain value. We can coordinate logistics as part of your overall project plan.

Materials & Finishes

Our capabilities span carbon steel, stainless steel (including various grades like 304 and 316), aluminum, copper, brass, and cast iron. We select materials based on the application's requirements for strength, corrosion resistance, weight, and appearance. For custom projects, we can recommend appropriate materials if you're unsure which is best for your needs.

We offer several finishing options to protect and enhance your fabricated pieces: powder coating in any color, industrial enamel paints, sandblasting with protective oil, and hot-dip galvanizing for maximum corrosion resistance. The appropriate finish depends on the piece's intended use, environment, and aesthetic goals. We can advise on the best option for your specific application.

Getting Started

The easiest way to get started is to fill out our contact form with details about your project, including dimensions, materials, timeline, and any relevant photos or drawings. You can also call us directly at (802) 868-4968 to discuss your needs. For custom fabrication, we often recommend an in-person consultation at our shop to review samples and develop a detailed plan.

For the most accurate quote, provide as much detail as possible: dimensions (with rough sketches if available), preferred materials, intended use/environment, desired finish, and any deadline requirements. For structural work, any engineer drawings or specifications are helpful. The more information you provide upfront, the more accurate our estimate will be.

We work with both residential and commercial clients. Homeowners bring us projects ranging from decorative gates and railings to repair work and custom furniture. We've worked with major commercial contractors, industrial facilities, restaurants, and municipal organizations. No project is too small — we treat every job with the same attention to quality and customer service.
